June 15, 2005 - Day 3
HYDROLOGY LESSON - All cause rapids.
- Rocks
- Dips in the water
- Width of the river
This day definitely had its ups and downs! Everything began as normal, pack up, stretch, and eat. We began by “scouting” our first rapid, a class 4, called “White Horse”. Scouting is going to over look the rapid and see what the best path of travel is. White Horse was a lot easier than I thought it looked. We aced it. We went down stream some and stopped for lunch. After lunch we went to a rock to go rock jumping!! It was really scary! The rock was huge! When we were ready to jump, we had to say one thing we were going to leave behind and what we were jumping for. I was first. I said, “I was leaving behind my fear of drowning and I was jumping for will power.” I was so scared when I left the rock, but it was fun and I’m very happy I did it!
The “PHOENIX 2000” (Not pictured). This is a composting toilet and it was
the best port a potty I’ve ever seen. It has a bucket of sawdust you use when you are done and it really helps the smell! We all got over excited when we got to a Phoenix 2000.
