Sitting on the River

June 17, 2005 - Day 5

Friday was the longest day of the week. We started out as usual; stretch, breakfast, take- down, load up, and get on the water. The morning was pretty easy. We paddled through a few class 1 and 2 rapids. We ate lunch; we went another 15 miles for a total of 30 miles! When we got really close to camp, my boat (Lauren, Jenny, Alexis W, Katie L, and I) got really stuck on a rock. I mean we were like beached whales on that rock… We couldn’t move!! We worked on getting off the rock for ten minutes. We had emergency whistles on our life vests and we used them. We couldn’t see the “pig” or the other boat anywhere. Trung was sprinting towards us with a rescue bag when he heard the whistles. Just then, we got off the rock. We met up with everyone else and traveled the last of the 30 miles.

We got to camp and CIVILIZATION. We Snug as a bug!saw two other families. After dinner we made a human knot. It began to rain so we had to restart when it quit raining. It was cool though because when we finally untangled, we had two circles of 6 people. Cool huh? After games we all went to bed under our shelters, again.
