Common Questions and Answers About Volunteering |
|
Q. I work. Can I still be a Girl Scout Troop Leader? A. Certainly, most of our volunteers work outside the home. |
Q. Can I help in another way? A. Yes! There are many different ways adults can contribute to Girl Scouting. You do not have to be committed to a weekly meeting. |
Q. I don’t have any children. Can I still be a troop leader? A. Anyone over the age of 18 can be a Troop Leader. |
Q. I don’t know anything about Girl Scouting. How will I know what to do? A. All Girl Scout leaders are trained before meeting with their troops. Additionally, there are handbooks and Leader’s Guides for every level of Girl Scouting, which are a valuable source of ideas. |
Q. What if I can’t meet during the day? A. You can meet in the evening or on the weekend. We will match you with the troop or position that fits your schedule. |
Q. I don’t want the total responsibility of leading a troop. A. You are not on your own. Each troop must have a minimum of two adult leaders who, with a troop committee of parents, share the duties. There are also experienced Girl Scout Volunteers in your area who will offer assistance. |
Q. What do I do with the girls every week? I’m not very good with arts and crafts. A. What you do is up to you, your co-leader and the girls. Brownies have Try-Its, Juniors, Cadettes and Seniors have badges. All groups have specialty patches, community service ideas and holidays to work around. Most leaders use the handbooks as a good place to look for ideas. |

Volunteers
With the help of our many adult volunteers, girls in the Calumet Council participate in a variety of activities and programs that emphasize the values of fairness, self-respect, community service, high standards of conduct and respect and appreciation for diversity. All of these help contribute to our girls becoming good citizens and future leaders.
I invite those of you that are not currently involved with us to join us and to help make a difference in the lives of the girls in our area. By becoming an adult volunteer, you will embark on a most rewarding and fulfilling experience.
Through the successes of our volunteers, Girl Scouting is in all parts of the Calumet Council and we are looking to expand to ensure that every girl who wants to be a Girl Scout has the opportunity to do so!
The information here will give you a good overview of Girl Scouting in Calumet Council. We look forward to hearing from you in the near future.
