Cookie sales can help girls learn about business, practice goal-setting and develop self-confidence. Here are your Steps to Success:

Step 1Step 1.

Motivate: Define troop and personal sales goals

Customers buy more cookies from girls who have set troop and personal goals. And goal-setting is a valuable life skill. A great place to begin is by reviewing the Goal-setting Poster.

Help your troop brainstorm by using the Spin & Shout Ideas activity . Write goals on the poster. Then, help your girls fill out the order card to promote those life skills. Now your Girl Scouts are ready for a great cookie program season!

Step 2Step 2.

Plan:How to sell beyond family and friends?

When families are involved, girls have a greater chance of success. Encourage girls to host a family cookie meeting or party. They can share their goals, ask for help and make a plan. Last year’s customer’s list is a great place to start selling.

Remind families that the cookie program activities help girls learn about business, practice goal-setting and develop self-confidence, but not without their support.

Step 3Step 3.

Activate: Safety first!

Explain the safety rules listed on the Hip-Hop Scotch activity sheet, located on the order card.

For a fun meeting activity, divide the girls into small groups and have each one act out a safety-related situation. For example: “A customer invites you to come inside her house while she finds her purse. What do you do?”

Print and share the Safety Pledge with the girls.

Step 4Step 4:

Count: Track your Progress

Help the girls use the Goal-setting Poster to watch their sales add up. First, share with the girls how to estimate, then estimate how many boxes the troop must sell to finance the goal.

Divide that number by 5. Write this number at 20%, then increase it by even amounts until you reach the 100%.

For example, if your troop wants to sell 1,500 boxes, divide 1,500 by 5. The levels would read: 300, 600, 900, 1,200, 1,500.

Step 5Step 5:

Celebrate: Jump, shout, hip-hop!

Congratulate the girls on their achievements. Enjoy a cookie shake to celebrate! Review their goals and help them plan the activities they chose
