What is a Cookie Walkabout?

A Cookie Walkabout is a way for individual girls or a whole troop to directly sell cookies. It can be done in addition to, or take the place of a Booth Sale.

Why should we do a Cookie Walkabout?

For Fun, Fitness and to Reach More Customers! It’s also a great way to sell your leftover boxes of cookies, or cookies that were ordered but never delivered. A Walkabout promotes teamwork and makes Girl Scouts visible in the community.

What’s the biggest reason people haven’t bought cookies?

Girl Scouts haven’t asked them! Research shows that over 95% of people will purchase at least 1 box of Girl Scout Cookies if they are asked! And over 35% of consumers say they WANT to buy them at home from a girl!

How do I plan a Cookie Walkabout?

Follow this simple 4-step planning process:

Motivate: Have the girls set goals or guess the number of steps they’ll walk. Use a pedometer to check results. Set an incentive to help the girls set and reach their goal.

Communicate: Make sure parents are aware of this fun activity and ask them to help. Girls should wear Girl Scout t-shirts or their vest/sash. They can also wear cookie costumes! (Costumes must be reserved at Service Center. Limited number available). Before your Walkabout, decorate wagons (to carry the cookies) and check with the Service Center for materials that are available.

Activate: Concentrate your efforts in a neighborhood, apartment building, senior citizen complex or other area. Create small teams of 3-4 girls and assign an adult chaperone to each team. Set a start and finish time and meet at a pre-determined location.

Celebrate: Have a party and celebrate your successful Walkabout. Don’t forget that a patch is available in the Council Shop for $.50.

What do I need to do?

Let the Council Product Sale Coordinator know when you’re going to hold the Walkabout. No trip application is needed, and you won’t need parent permission slips either. Additional cases of cookies will be available, if you need more (just like a booth sale.)
