Dear Parents,
Thank you for enrolling your daughter in Girl Scouts of the Calumet Council. It is a privilege for us to have her as part of our membership. I want to assure you that Girl Scouts continues to be the premier organization for girls.
Your daughter's membership makes her part of the 96 year-old tradition of Girl Scouting in the United States. As part of the 3.5 million Girl Scouts currently enrolled, your daughter joins over 50 million women and girls who have been part of the Girl Scout Movement. The values she learns in Girl Scouts, and the skills that she develops, will build her courage, confidence and character and she will be better able to face challenges, make sound choices, be self-reliant and take a stand for what is right, throughout her life.
Girl Scout members pay a $10 annual registration fee that is sent directly to Girl Scouts of the USA, our national organization. Your Family Campaign contribution helps to defray the $213 per year cost of delivering Girl Scout program to each girl. Periodic dues are assessed at the troop level to pay for supplies, snack and incidentals needed for meetings.
But what about the Girl Scout Spring Product Sale Program? Yes, this program raises money, but it is really about LEARNING, EARNING, EXPLORING and SHARING.
The Girl Scout Spring Product Sale Program provides funds directly to Troops/Groups to finance their activities. They can use the money they earn to discover, travel, explore their world and have fun. In addition, many Troops/Groups use the funds earned in their treasury to support those causes and efforts that the girls identify as important to them and their community. While the main thrust of the Girl Scout Spring Product Sale Program is on teamwork, individual girls can earn recognitions.
Revenues from the Girl Scout Spring Product Sale Program also go on to support the work of Girl Scouts of the Calumet Council. This revenue allows the Council to present new programs and activities for girls, to offer a variety of training and support to our 2,000 volunteers and to maintain our camp properties.
The Girl Scout Spring Product Sale Program gives your daughter ownership in the Girl Scout Movement. Participation teaches girls that it is better to earn one's way than to have things just given to them. Through this program girls learn how to plan, set goals, make presentations, deal with the public and keep good records. These are skills that will take them beyond their troop experience and are equally as valuable as those learned on the playing fields, the dance floor or other extracurricular activities. Only through this program will she learn the valuable lesson about self-reliance and her own ability to make her dreams come true. |

Participate with your daughter. Your support and encouragement are important.
Help your daughter develop SMART goals:
S pecific
M easurable
A ttainable
R elevant
T imely
Time spent planning and talking about the goal directly and positively relates to successfully reaching the goal.
Goals should be challenging enough to be motivational. They must be aimed toward a desired result. Your daughter should set her own goal and you can help her determine if it SMART. Help her to identify the steps to achievement.
Working with your daughter on goal setting for the Spring Product Sale Program makes you a part of the integral Girl/Adult Partnership of Girl Scouting! |
